From March 2017, at least 3 people died of Malaria at Khensani Hospital in Giyani, Limpopo.
About 624 cases of Malaria have been reported in Limpopo in 2017. It’s the highest number in recent years, spurring the provincial health department into action.
It’s alleged that Khensani Hospital admitted a great number of patients with malaria. Limpopo Health Department spokesperson, Derrick Kganyago said “residents must allow the malaria fighting people to fumigate their houses”.
Limpopo Health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba said “in 2017 the province has declined in terms of performance mainly because of the heavy rain falls and floods that we experienced”.
” Recently I have seen too many patients and it’s not acceptable, please lets cooperate with these people.” Ramathuba said
” We are having challenges with the medication because of that outbreak in Botswana and Zimbabwe before us here companies are struggling with demands in terms of medication.” Ramathuba added
South Africa has made huge strides in the fight against malaria.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) said it has the potential to eliminate the mosquito-borne disease by 2020.
