Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, ( COGTA) minister Des Van Rooyen on Monday addressed the people of Malamulele in Limpopo at the local boxing gym, about the resolutions taken by the government after Vha Venda king Toni Mphephu Ramabulana’s proposal that the Vhembe district municipality should provide services to the people of Vuwani while a solution on the demarcation issue was being sought.
Last year, residents went on the rampage for about three months in protest against the decision by government to incorporate the area into the new local municipality in Malamulele (LIM 345).
Traditional leaders and Malamulele Task team have rejected that the Vhembe district municipality should provide services to the people of Vuwani while a solution on the demarcation issue was being sought.
It was further decided that relevant national and provincial government departments should provide support to the district municipality to carry out this new mandate.
Malamulele Task Team leader Ike Nukeri said “its a tribalism move that was taken by the government to have Vhembe district municipality providing services to the people of Vuwani”.
