Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality’s Mayor Pule Shayi and Senior vice president of Mining Human Resources and Corporate Affairs Mr James Morotoba officially opened the 20/30 MVA transformer at Selati Sub Station on Friday.
The transformer at the substation was made possible by Foskor’s contribution through its local economic development funding to Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality’s intergraded Development plan (infrastructure Development).
The transformer was manufactured by LH Martinussen, which is also represented in Phalaborwa.
The mayor was accompanied by his entourages Madam speaker Merriam Malatji, EXCO members Lucky Mohlala, Thompson Nkuna and Agreement Mmola and Foskor Executive Directors.
LH Martinussen started delivery and assembly of the transformer on Thursday 8th June, and it was placed in position on Sunday 11th June in Selati Substation with the help of Foskor.
During the official opening, the Mayor Pule Shayi said the old 20 MVA transformer was removed during the operation, and the municipality now has 2 new transformers available.
“The new 20/30 MVA transformer is not commissioned yet, but this will be done by the contractors responsible for the upgrading of Selati Substation within the next few months”, Shayi said.
“Once the work is complete, the substation will be boasting 2 new transformers and also new switchgear, which will improve the reliability of the main supply to Phalaborwa town considerably”.
Shayi expressed his sincere gratitude to Foskor. “With their help it will now be possible to improve on service delivery to the residents of Phalaborwa town”, he said.
