Giyani- Giyani Traffic Station was robbed about R20 000 in cash last Friday.
It is alleged that about five armed men ambushed two municipal security guards at around 2am on Friday and tied them up.
It is also alleged that the armed men asked the security guards to show them the safe where the cash is kept.
Greater Giyani Municipality, (GGM) spokesperson Steven Mabunda confirmed the incident.
Mabunda said the armed robbers used a grinder to cut open the safe and at least R20 000 was stolen.
He added that they also took two (2) Cheques amounting to R84 000. The station is currently not fully operating, only a licence collection section is operating.
” Our station is currently closed. Services are not available, only those who want to collect their licences can be attended”, Mabunda said.
” The reason we are still closed is that there are things that still need to be fixed. We are also looking at security issues. We are considering beefing up the security at the station”, he said.
Meaniwhile Giyani Police spokesperson Captain Magezi Khosa said they opened a robbery case and investigations are continuing
“We have not made any arrest yet but investigations are on going”, Khosa said.
