Vengo hitmaker Sedzani Sigebe also known by his stage name ‘Pro heed’ has recently launched a campaign to collect sanitary towels. The main aim of the campaign is to restore dignity for young girls who can not afford. Sigebe was born and raised in Tshamutavha Ha-Mukununde village in Niani area outside Masisi.
A mother of 15 year old girl, Fhulufhelo Maluga said that she is so pleased and impressed about the campaign. “My daughter is not able to go to school when she is on her periods. Sometimes she uses a sock to avoid messing up her uniform”, she said.
Reagan Pfunzo Tshikalange, owner of Reagan Funeral Undertakers who has been supporting and sponsoring the campaign allude that young girls need to be provided with sanitary towels so that they won’t bunk classes. “It is not about giving young girls sanitary towels but making sure that they are not ashamed of their periods. It will also prevent young girls from dropping out because of not being able to afford. ,” he said.
“The transition to womanhood should be a time of celebration, not painful experience”, founder of the campaign and Hip hop artist said. He added that there are many young girls who are still using rags and newspapers because they can not afford sanitary towels and that lead them to miss school.
