MALAMULELE – The case against 90 learners who were doing grade 12 in New-Era College in 2016 is still running at the moment.

Limpopo Department of Basic Education said they are so far happy with the response from learners who are implicated in the above mentioned case.

The Department’s provincial Spokesperson, Dr Elijah Mhlanga, is calling on all the learners who are due to give statements to come forward.

“We’ve postponed the dates due to least number of people who positively wanted to give information about the investigated case.” Said Dr Mhlanga

The 90 learners are said to be implicated in the Matric final examination cheating that happened last year.

“72 learners have so far availed themselves to go through our internal investigation processes and we believe the others will come as soon as possible”, concluded Dr Mhlanga.

During the investigation process, learners had one on one with the relevant investigator. The session was supposed to commence on the 1st of August 2017 and be concluded on the 14th of August, but due to poor attendance it started on the 14th of August and might be concluded on Friday the 25th of August.

In this case, New-Era’s director Tinyiko Elphas Khosa (53) was arrested in November 2016 and he appeared multiple times before the Giyani Magistrate Court and was released on bail pending the investigation.

Khosa handed himself to Giyani police after the Limpopo Provincial Hawks launched a manhunt looking for him.

Limpopo Hawks Spokesperson, Captain Matimba Maluleke said the case against Khosa will be heard again on September.

“The suspect is still out on bail and he’s expected to re- appear in Giyani Magistrate Court next month and the investigations are still running.” Said Captain Maluleke

Some of the 2016 matric learners from Giyani High School and New-Era College haven’t yet received their results due to the investigations.
