Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality officially launched September as tourism month by hosting Orchid Show at Bollanoto Tourism and information Centre outside Phalaborwa Town on Friday, 1 September 2017.

Speaking during the officially opening, acting Mayor of the day Cllr Mavis Malesa said Ba-Phalaborwa Local Municipality has been on a journey with the Orchid Society for past seven (7) years and believe that these occasion creates a platform for all partners to entice and a sustainable environment for nature lovers. “These event embodies love and tender care for humanity, ecosystem and cuts across all demographics groups, as all of us embrace a particular kind of flower or plant in our lifetime. It is for these reason that as Municipality we are actively involved and provide support for these event”, Said Malesa.

The Orchid show is celebrated annually during September and this year’s theme is “Ba-Phalaborwa We Do Tourism “it encourages Ba-Phalaborwa to travel domestically to get a better understanding of the affordable, exciting and world class attractions that are available on their own doorstep.

Once again, Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality is celebrating this month with fun-filled activities envisaged to promote the growth of local economy and to sustain tourism development.

The month long activities include Spring Day, Orchid Show, and flea Market, Mahala Entry into Kruger National Park and Heritage and Arbor Day amongst others.

Malesa, who is the Chairperson for Planning and Development further said that the event should also be celebrated by all people from different walks of life; taking into consideration that we are positioning ourselves as a world class tourist destination.

The event was attended amongst others by Planning and Development members, Cllr Lamola and Cllr Phenius Mashego, Chairperson for Phalaborwa Society Jimmy Rodgers, Secretary for Marilda Wagend, Ba-Phalaborwa LED and Hospitality Sector Chairperson Mr Ditaba Malapane and Acting Director for Planning Ba-Phalaborwa Tourism Association Mr Modise Mashale

She highlighted that the Phalaborwa Orchid society has a huge role of creating awareness and community development and educating us about the Orchid plant species.
