PHALABORWA – The Hawks’s Serious Commercial Crimes Unit members have arrested three suspects aged 26, 38 and 43 in the Namakgale area outside Phalaborwa for unlawful possession of Sassa beneficiary cards. The arrests were made on friday 1 September.
The suspects were arrested following intelligence received about their unlawful possession of Sassa cards in the area. Hawks provincial spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke said during the operation, police seized 35 Sassa beneficiary cards, 15 Identification cards, 3 easypay cards and R10 180-00 cash.
“All suspects were released on R1000 bail each and they will appear before the Namakgale Magistrate Court on Monday to face charges of contravention of Sec 20 of Social Assistance Act 13 of 2004 and National Credit Act 34 of 2005”, said Capt Maluleke.
This operation is the third of its own kind in the Province after the two that were conducted in Bugersfort and Northam in August 2017.
