LIMPOPO- Limpopo Hawks have welcomed the 18 years sentence given to the former police reservist.
Jacob Fancy Motau (44) was sentenced to eighteen years direct imprisonment for fraud, corruption and impersonating a police officer by the Groblersdal Regional Court on Tuesday, 26 September 2017.
The accused who was once a police reservist at Belabela police station demanded money from the complainant who was arrested for operating illegal gambling in Belabela in exchange for alerting him of the police raids for illegal gambling in the area.
Hawks Provincial spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke said Motau who was suspended as a police reservist collected money from the complainant on a number number of occasions until the complainant got fed up and reported the matter to the police.
“Motau was arrested in August 2015 immediately after receiving money from the complainant”, said Captain Maluleke
The Acting Provincial Head Brigadier Thabo Ramela thanked all the parties who were involved in the investigation.
“We will earnestly continue to fight corruption until we come out victorious”, added Brigadier Ramela.
