LIMPOPO- Three suspects, Ramokatse Joel Mokonoto (61), Paulos Maseka (63) And Gezani John Baloyi (55) were given deterrent sentences by Seshego Regional Court on Thursday 21 September 2017 for defrauding Bonitas Medical Aid Scheme a fortune amounting to R1 342 368-14.
Beteen the year 1997 and 1999 the accused were working as medical technologists doing medical tests referred to them by doctors. During this period, the accused defrauded the medical aid scheme by submitting claim forms of tests that were never conducted.
Limpopo Hawks Spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke said as theinvestigation progressed, it was revealed that accused number two (Paulos Maseka) and accused number three (Gezani John Baloyi) never had a registered laboratory.
“The accused were sentenced as follows: Accused no 1# Ramokatse Joel Mokonoto was found guilty on 684 counts of fraud and sentenced to nine (9) years imprisonment. Accused no 2 and no 3, namely Paulos Maseka and Gezani John Baloyi respectively were both found guilty on 764 counts of fraud and sentenced to ten (10) years imprisonment respectively,” said Captain Maluleke
The acting Provincial Head Brigadier Thabo Ramela lauded the investigation team that worked on the case for its tireless efforts.
“This is a clear indication that we have got determined and assiduous investigators… No matter how long the investigation may take, they always make sure that justice prevails”, concluded Brigadier Ramela.
