The smuggling of cars and other goods along the Beitbridge border line near Musina in Limpopo continues.
Several vehicles have recently been found stuck in the sandy Limpopo River at the border.
Both the national Department of Public Works and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) keep shifting the responsibility of who should be repairing the porous border fence.
The defence force said it is only tasked with the responsibility of guarding the border line, not repairing the fence.
Public Works Spokesperson Thami Mchunu said his department is only responsible for buildings.
“We are only responsible for government buildings only. We are not responsible for the fence across the borders. We do not deal with
borders of the country. The responsible department is the SANDF.”
