Four (4) unknown armed robbers tried in vein to rob Cash-in-transit guards on Thursday, 05 October.

It’s reported that the guards were collecting money at Checkers mall Phalaborwa when the first security guard took the first 4 containers containing money and dropped them inside the Cash-in-transit vehicle and went back to collect the 4 remaining empty containers.

As he walked out of Checkers Mall 4 armed men wearing Balaclavas pointed him with firearms and took the 4 empty containers and a one 9mm pistol with 10 live ammunitions belonging to the security company.

Phalaborwa police spokesperson, Elvis Mongwe said as they ran to the getaway car (Nissan Sentra Red in colour with no registration number) one Empty container fell and they only managed to run away with 3 empty containers and one firearm.

“A mansive man hunt for these suspects is underway. The police urge anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of these suspects to contact SAPS Phalaborwa at 015 781 9277 /78 or crime stop at 08600 10111,” Mongwe added.

“The suspects didn’t know that the containers were empty since they were sealed. No shots were fired,” he concluded.
