POLICE OFFICER WOUNDED AFTER CAUGHT IN CROSSFIRE

TZANEEN- A Police officer has been wounded during a shoot-out with heavily armed robbers at Kgapane outside Tzaneen on Tuesday.

It’s alleged that a gang of about 20 armed robbers had blown up the safe at a retail store in Modjadji plaza in Ga-kgapane.

Limpopo provincial police spokesperson LT. Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the Police were notified and reacted swiftly.

“Upon arrival at the entrance of the plaza, the police were shot at by these criminals, they retaliated and during that process, one police officer was injured, a police car was damaged and those criminals fled the scene with unknown vehicles,” said Ngoepe.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Jan Scheepers has condemned this barbaric act with anger and disgust but he assured members of the community that the Task Team was going to hunt them day and night until they were brought to book.

“Members of the community are advised and encouraged to come on board to protect and support the police in their endeavour to fighting against crime, because an attack to the police is an attack to the State, said Scheepers.
