GIYANI- Mopani District Municipality Executive Mayor, Nkakareng Rakgoale held a sod turning ceremony for a 3-bedroom house that she is currently building for the 3 Mkhancwa orphans at Mninginisi village block 3 outside Giyani town.

This emerged after the Mkhancwa Orphans had nowhere to put their heads in. Amukelani (21) and her two younger brothers sleep in a heart-breaking hut which was left by their mother before she died.

The 3-bedroom house has reached its final stage and soon Rakgoale will hand over the house to Amukelani Mkancwa  and her 2 younger brothers, Elijah and Vutshila.

Speaking to Giyani View on Tuesday, Amukelani said Mopani District Municipality (MDM) has been grateful to disadvantage children like her and her brothers and she is thankful for their adoption since they’re not the only orphans in the village.

“Since the mayor has adopted us, we receive food every month. Very soon we will have a decent house to sleep in. It was painful since death did us no Justice, taking away our parents soon and left us with no one to take care of us.

“The only surviving spouse, we have is our granny who is very old and because of her age, she can’t be closing the gap in our lives.

Despite her situation Amukelani who is in Grade 12 this year, has a dream to further her studies and become a breadwinner for her brothers. She said she is looking forward to studying Bachelor of social work in 2019.

MDM spokesperson, Neil Shikwambani said ” the progress has been made on the construction of a 3-bedroom house, and the mayor is maintaining exactly what she had promised in December that these kids will soon be living in a decent house. Construction is due to be concluded in due course.” Concluded Shikwambani
