APPLICANTS INJURED DURING STAMPEDE AT CAPRICORN TVET COLLEGE

POLOKWANE- On Thursday morning (Today) members of MMP Security who were in charge of access control at Capricorn FET College, in College Street – Polokwane opened the gates to allow entry to the multitudes of the awaiting applicants for registration.

A stampede ensued as the applicants were jostling for access, resulting in serious injury to Tshepo Malatjie (22) from Tzaneen and the collapsing of 5 other applicants aged between 19 and 26 both from the province.

Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said “the injured applicant was transported to Pietersburg Provincial Hospital for medical treatment.

“The condition of the injured person cannot be confirmed as of now.

“Police have also opened a hit and run case after a motorist driving a white Mercedes Benz with registration numbers CMX 390 L ran over two applicants walking in the vicinity of the college, seriously injuring one of them.

“Anyone with information regarding the incident is requested to contact the nearest police or call the toll free number 0860010111.

“The situation at the college has now returned to normal after the college management decided to suspend the registration process until Monday next week.” Concluded Mojapelo.
