GIYANI- Masingita Group of Companies (MGC) spokesperson, Tim Phiri told Giyani View that investigations by the relevant authorities after one person died last week at the Giyani Regional Mall site are in progress. He added that a report thereof is expected soon where after an appropriate and factual response to this enquiry will be given.
This has emerged after three workers who were on duty inside a trench estimated to be ten metres deep, the heap of soil fell on them at the site. The heap has killed one person and the other two were rescued.
Phiri stressed that the site has an independent safety consulting firm as well as safety officers. He said “SHE reps was duly appointed by the Contractor.”
Phiri didn’t answer if MGC has put any mechanism in place to support the family of deceased financially.
Phiri added that MGC will fully communicate upon completion of the investigation and subject to formal permission from the deceased family.
