GIYANI- Two Mageva village siblings and a friend were arrested for the murder of a 56-year-old man. It’s alleged that the suspects and the victim were drinking at a local tavern last Sunday when the eldest suspect started accusing the victim of sleeping with his girlfriend.
Police say the 56-year-old allegedly slapped the suspect with an open hand and a scuffle ensued. The suspect allegedly stabbed the victim twice in the chest and once on the spinal cord.
“The other suspect hit the victim with a stone at the back of the head, while the third suspect was allegedly kicking the victim during the ordeal.
“The victim was rushed to Nkhensani Hospital where he was certified dead on arrival. The suspects wanted to play hide and seek with the police, but their borrowed freedom was brought to an abrupt end on Thursday night during Operation Thatha Zonke.
“The suspects will appear before the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Monday, facing charges of murder.” Said Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda.
In other successes attained during Operation Thatha Zonke in the Giyani Cluster on Thursday night; police in Gravelotte have arrested two suspects for possession of gold and for illegal hunting.
In Hlanganani two suspects were arrested for assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, one was nabbed for burglary residence while the other was busted for violating a protection order. Meanwhile, Malamulele police arrested two suspects for assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm.
In Lulekani one man was arrested for attempted murder, two were arrested for assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, whereas two were nabbed for malicious damage to property and for sexual assault.
One suspect was arrested by the Giyani FCS for rape. Police in Phalaborwa and their counterparts in Namakgale arrested one suspect each of assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm.
In Hoedspruit one suspect was arrested for burglary residence.
“These successes were achieved during Operation Thatha Zonke which was in full swing in the Giyani Cluster from Thursday 2018-02-01 night. This operation will be continued until all identified suspects are brought behind bars. 20 suspects for various crimes were arrested.” Concluded Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda.
