LIMPOPO- A traffic police officer has been hijacked while on duty in the morning hours of Sunday 8th April. It is alleged that a 35-year-old Traffic Police Officer was on official duties alone, along the Makonde and Luvhimbi public road near Thohoyandou.

Limpopo Police Spokesperson LT. Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe says that the traffic cop stopped a Toyota Corolla metallic gold in colour with registration numbers CMJ 570 L and the occupants thereof pointed him with fire arms, forced him in their vehicle and drove off towards Thathe plantations.

“On arrival at these plantations, they stripped him off his uniform, took his official firearm, all his belongings and they shot him before they fled leaving him there,” said Ngoepe.

Ngoepe explained that the matter was reported to the Police who reacted swiftly and subsequently, the State motor vehicle which was being used by the victim was found abandoned at Makonde village.

“The victim sustained serious gunshot wounds during this incident and he was taken to hospital for medical treatment,” noted Ngoepe.
The incident has led to the Thohoyandou Police unit launching a massive manhunt for the armed suspects. The suspects are still unknown, and no arrest has been made yet.

The police request anyone with information which can lead to the arrest of these suspects, to contact Brigadier James Espach at 082 576 0743 or the nearest Police Station.

“The Police investigations are still continuing,” concluded Ngoepe.
