GIYANI- The officers attached to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) have arrested a 29-year-old man on Thursday for allegedly raping a 60-year-old victim at Selawa village in Giyani.
Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda of the South African Police Service in Limpopo says that the victim was on her way home from attending a function at her neighbour’s house on Wednesday night when was followed by the suspect who held her hand and offered to escort her home.
“On the way the suspect allegedly pulled into the path leading to the river, closed her mouth with his hands and dragged her to the nearby bushes where he raped her” said Netshiunda
Lt. Colonel Netshiunda further states that when he was busy raping her for the second time the suspect heard voices of people walking towards the direction he was committing his evil deed. He then left the victim and ran away.
“The suspect, who is a nephew of the victim, will appear before the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Monday facing a charge of rape” concluded Netshiunda
