RITAVI – A 35-year-old man, Norman Nhlungwana, was sentenced to six months imprisonment without the option of fine after he was found guilty of contravening protection order. This was after Nhlungwana appeared in the Ritavi Magistrate Court on Tuesday 08th May.

Constable Mienkie Ramakgoakgoa of the SAPS in Limpopo says that they (police) appreciate the jail term sentenced against a 35-year-old man for contravention of protection order.

“The court heard that On December 06th last year, the above-mentioned convict contravened the protection order that was issued against him, by threatening a 31-year-old woman, Gracious Mhloti Shipalana at her residence,” said Ramakgoakgoa.

According to Ramakgoakgoa, the complainant is said to be the convict’s ex-boyfriend as the incident took place at Shikwambana village near Mhlava Headkraal in Tzaneen Cluster.

“The sentencing of the accused should send a clear message to all perpetrators of domestic violence that the law will be applied mercilessly against any guilty person,” noted Ramakgoakgoa.

Ramakgoakgoa concluded by saying that all crime incidents, especially domestic related ones, are treated with high intensity and people are urged to seek professional assistance rather than resorting to violence.
