Giyani- The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), from ward 12 in Giyani say they have no other option if the Department of Health fails to pay its employees by October 31st, but to close down Evuxakeni and Nkhensani Hospital.
This emerged from the meeting between the EFF ward 12 leadership and the Evuxakeni Hospital management held last Tuesday.
According to ward 12 leader, Austin Mabasa, management had promised that the department of health will pay the workers who haven’t received their salaries since March 2018.
“They told us that the payment would be made on July 31st last Wednesday, but surprisingly, workers still haven’t been paid their money.
“On Wednesday, we went to Nkhensani Hospital to enquire about this problem and we were told that even the MEC is aware of the challenge.
“We told them that they must pay the workers or else we’ll shut down the institution. The way forward is that all unpaid workers must be paid on the 30th September 2018, and they are going to get the money for 6 months back pay. In October there will be a follow up meeting based on our agreement”, concluded Mabasa.
The department spokesperson, Neil Shikwambana haven’t responded to Giyani View whether if the department is planning to pay its employees sooner or later.
