Giyani- The Vatsonga/Machangani Royal Leaders Unity is pained by the insults hurled at a Tsonga, Premier Soccer League (PSL) Referee Victor Hlungwani, and the VaTsonga ethnic group as a whole, the Council said in a statement released on Thursday

This comes after an altercation which saw Black Leopards Chairman David Thidiela hurling insults at Victor Hlungwani over the weekend after his team’s loss to Bloemfontein Celtics

David Thidiela in a voice note doing the rounds on social media could be heard alleging mistreatment by Victor Hlungwani.

He is also heard using the F word against the Tsonga speaking people.

We are both shocked and disgusted that quarter a century, after the fall of apartheid and tribal based homeland systems, a fellow South African in a high-profile position such as Mr Thidiela would make such a derogatory comment about three million South Africans, in a full glare of the public, with no fear of any consequences, the statement reads

“Furthermore, we are even more saddened as Mr Thidiela belongs to an ethnic group with very close historical, economic and cultural ties with us”

The Royal Unity vowed to communicate measures they believe should be taken against Thidiela

David Thidiela has since been suspended from the PSL executive committee.

Sowetan Live reports that the decision to suspend Thidiela was taken at a meeting of the PSL’s Board of Governors (BoG) at Emperors Palace Hotel and Casino in Kempton Park on Thursday.
