Zama-zama died at Mapuve village, unused mine

Giyani- Police in Giyani have opened an inquest docket after an alleged illegal miner died in an incident which occurred on Tuesday night at one of the unused mine near Mapuve village outside Giyani town.

It is alleged that the deceased was busy mining with others, when a rock fell on his head, killing him instantly.

Police says his accomplices managed to remove his lifeless body from the shaft and placed him alongside the road towards Nhlaniki village. An investigation into why this was done is still unfolding.

“The deceased’s identity is still unknown. Anyone with information about the incident and who can assist the police in the identification of the deceased, may contact Colonel Chris Mabasa at 082 469 0739 or the crime stop number 0860010111 or the crime line sms 32211 or the nearest police station.

“The Police investigations are still continuing”, said Limpopo Police Spokesperson, Moatshe Ngoepe.
