Phalaborwa- Police in Phalaborwa are investigating a case of culpable homicide following an accident which left 2 people dead.
The accident occurred on Tuesday night alongside Phalaborwa / Makhushane road also known as R530 next to Makhoma Abattoir at the heavy industrial area outside Phalaborwa town.
According to Police preliminary investigations, the driver of the vehicle Colt, Mitsubishi Bakkie was with five other occupants.
“Four were sitting at the back of the bakkie and one was the passenger in front. They were travelling from Namakgale to Phalaborwa when the driver lost control of the vehicle before it overturned.
“During that time, the occupants who were sitting at the back of the bakkie were thrown out on impact and two died on the spot. The other three sustained serious injuries and were taken by ambulance to hospital for medical treatment.
“The dedicated team of detectives is busy investigating the matter to establish the cause of the accident.
“The names of the deceased have not yet been released.
“The acting Station Commander of Phalaborwa SAPS Lt Col Friday ‘Madyagungula’ Baloyi has sent condolences to the bereaved families.
“He assures the families that the police investigation will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the root cause of the accident is known.
“He further urges all motorists to obey the rules of the road”. Concluded Sgt Elvis Mongwe.
