Police, fire rubber bullets to disperse disgruntled Dzingidzingi residents

Giyani- Police have confirmed the alleged  clash between villagers from two communities, Dzingidzingi and Bode villages in the outskirts of Giyani town.



According to our source the dispute between the two neighbouring villages broke out on Monday night, when a house of a rapist who is alleged to have raped an elderly woman on Sunday in the nearby bushes of Bode village was burnt to ashes.

Giyani View learned that the suspect is alleged to have raped an elderly woman before he then attacked her with an axe.

“The victim managed to escape after she had been attacked with an axe. She was later taken to hospital for medical attention.

“On Monday night, Bode village residents went to Dzingidzingi village and burnt down the house of the alleged perpetrator, and this has angered Dzingidzingi residents.

Although it was not the first time, Bode residents burned houses of the alleged perpetrators in the village.”  added our source.

On Tuesday night, police had fired rubber bullets to help disperse Dzingidzingi residents after they were reported to have gathered to attack Bode village in retaliation.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe says Public Order Police have been deployed in the area.

“Our members conducted an operation at Bode village and arrested 08 suspects of arson at about 01:00 this morning and they will appear in court soon, investigation continues”, added Ngoepe.
