Tzaneen- The 68-year-old suspect arrested for raping a 6-year-old girl has appeared before Lenyenye Magistrate’s court on Thursday.

The case was postponed to 06 December 2018 for bail application and further police investigations. The suspect remains in custody.

This follows an incident that occurred on the 20th of November 2018 at Maake village outside Tzaneen, where the suspect who is the victim’s neighbour, lured her to his house and raped her.

Police say, he then offered her a packet of chips in exchange for her silence.

“The parents of the child after noticing the changes in the behaviour of the victim, they questioned her and she divulged the whole ordeal.

“The police were immediately notified, and a case of rape was opened. The family violence, child protection and sexual offences (FCS) unit started with their initial investigations until the suspect was arrested at his home”, added Moatshe Ngoepe.
