Giyani- In our efforts to verify the reports that ICASA has summon Giyani community radio (GCR) FM to submit annual financial statements, audited reports and all compliance documents that they had failed to file for the past four years weren’t effective.
According to reports GCR FM have until the 12th of December 2018 to file all required documents as per licence requirements and regulatory framework.
Giyani Task Team (GTT) alleges that the station manager of GCR FM is facing 107 charges of fraud in relation to money laundering, fake invoices, misleading SARS and racketeering.
“MDDA a community radio and newspaper funding agency of the department of communications has been ordered to publish all funding letters, grants and subsidies that were utilised to fund Giyani community radio.
“Income and expenditure statements must be lodged as per the compeling order handed down in North Gauteng high court under rule 6 of the supreme court of SA.
“All former and currently serving board members (Directors) of Giyani community radio are due to be charged by the Directorate of Special Operations HAWKS Limpopo division on charges of fraud and money laundering .
“The senior whistle blower and compalinant Mr Thembani Gift Chabane is running for his life following the death threats and cellphone intimidation by secret agents alleged to be hired by Mr Prenomen Chabane (GCR FM Co-founder and station manager)
“Meanwhile Thembani Chabane a man who led a march under Giyani Task Team to demand board dissolution of GCR FM and sacking of station manager on 20 October 2018 had his case withdrawn on grounds of poor evidence on 22 February 2018.
“A case was later reinstated against him and co-accused Matimba Maluleke and Tinyiko Chabalala who are facing a charge of malicious damage to property.
“All the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges as there was fabrication of the scene and false reporting of statements. The trial shall resume and finalised on the 22nd of January 2019.
“Presiding officer, magistrate MD Maluleke will be requested to recuse himself on the matter as his son Advocate Kevin Maluleke is a Lawyer who’s representing Mr Prenomen Chabane on Hawks case and Rodney Mabunda (GCR FM marketing head) in assault case relating to the assault of co-worker, Ms Khensani Ndlovukazi Chabalala.
“Giyani community radio is an outcast and an embarrassment to the Giyani people as it has no interest in developing and empowering the youth, disabled and unemployed youth in Giyani.
“ICASA the regulatory body for all public and community broadcasting radios in South Africa has received a complaint letter dated 06 November 2018 from Thembani Gift Maswanganyi who’s complain is based on false news reports and unlawful misleading and defamatory publicity on the news bulletin and current affairs programs on GCR FM.
“The matter is at advanced stage with the regulator and GCR FM has been found to be non complaint with community radio licence,” concludes GTT Statement.
