Mokopane- A 32-year-old suspect that was positively linked to ten (10) rape cases dating back to 2016 as well as the rape of a 32- year-old woman recently has been tracked down and arrested by the South African police service in Mahwelereng outside Mokopane.
The milestone achievement follows an incident that took place on Wednesday afternoon, January 2nd 2016. It is alleged that a 32 year old woman was on her way back from work to home in Mokopane when she was attacked by the suspect at knife point. The suspect robbed her of her two phones and dragged her into the nearby bushes where he raped her.
The matter was reported to the police who conducted investigations and traced the suspect until he was finally apprehended at Sekgakgapeng village outside Mahwelereng.
The suspect will appear before the Mokopane magistrate’s court soon on rape charges.
The provincial commissioner of the South African police service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, commended the team of family violence, children protection and sexual offences (FCS) unit and other police units that participated in successfully tracking down the suspect who has been tormenting women in the area.
“This should serve as a warning to all the sexual offenders out there that they will be hunted down and be dealt with harshly and without compromise, unless they stop their heinous acts.” General Ledwaba concluded.
