Polokwane- Justice has finally been served for the murder of 25-year-old Jan Railwa after he was mistaken for a warthog by an unrepentant white farmer.
The provincial police management in Limpopo welcomed the six years direct imprisonment sentence of the accused, Stefan Hepburn (40) on Tuesday 29th of January by the Modimolle Regional court on a charge of culpable homicide since his conviction on 11th of December last year.
The incident happened on Saturday evening 11th February 2017at a farm in Tuinplaas farm in Modimolle Cluster.
On that fateful night, the deceased from Loding Extension 02 in Mpumalanga as well as a farm worker by the time was shot dead by the accused when hunting after he mistook him for a warthog.
Welcoming the sentence, provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba warned all authorized hunters to be extra careful and first make proper identification before shooting any animal they are hunting.
“This sentence should serve as a wakeup call to all persons making use of firearms that any form of negligence will not be tolerated.” he stated.
“We also commend a team of investigators that was led by Captain Richard Boshomane, for leaving no stone unturned in making sure that a conviction verdict is secured.” General Nneke Ledwaba concluded.
