Provincial Commissioner establishes a high level task team to investigate murder cases in the province

Polokwane- Limpopo South African Police Service (SAPS) provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, has established a high level Task Team led by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner responsible for Crime Detection, Major General Samuel Manala, to investigate cases of murder where the victims were gunned down by unknown suspects.

The Provincial Commissioner, visited Itsani village in Thohoyandou where the latest incident took place on Wednesday night when a 50-year-old Balangani Ronald Mani was gunned down by an unknown assailant at the local liquor outlet.

Polokwane police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo says that the established Task Team will also take over the investigation of cases where the victims were attacked in similar fashion. One such case is the murder of a 42 year old Thabang Maupa that took place last year November in Tubatse policing area outside Burgersfort.

“The other cases involve an attempt on the life of Timson Tshililo at Makwarela last week Thursday and the attempted murder that took place in Thohoyandou last year August in which Advocate Ndwamato Joseph Themeli was shot several times whilst seated in his vehicle in front of his gate,”

“Our preliminary investigations have so far indicated that the victims were attacked by faceless assailants at night but there is currently no information suggesting that these cases are linked, ” says Mojalefa

Mojalefa concluded by saying that the motive for this attack at this stage remains unknown.
