Limpopo- the Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Nneki Ledwaba, has commended the detectives, including the family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit for a job well done after two criminals were arrested and sentenced.
The Phalaborwa regional court has sentenced 53-year old Thabalesoka Shayi to life imprisonment for the rape of a 24-year old woman in Namakgale outside Phalaborwa six years ago.
According to the police the victim was walking from Topville to Mashishimale village during the night on the 15th of December 2012 when she came across two men who changed their direction and followed her.
“She was threatened and dragged into nearby bushes where they both took turns in raping her before they fled the scene.
She reported the matter to the police who immediately traced the suspects and arrested one in 2014 and they are still looking for the other suspect.
“Another heavy sentence of 21 years imprisonment was given to a 32-year old man Nzimeni Evans Muthukwana from Mphephu by the Thohoyandou High Court for murder, two counts of assault and was further declared unfit to possess a firearm.
“He was accused of stabbing to death 35-year old Njerengu Filbert on the 28th of August in 2016 after the accused came to the restaurant where the victim was working to buy food.
“When he was asked to pay, the accused suddenly snapped and stabbed the deceased on the chest to death before he fled the scene.” concluded Moatshe Ngoepe.
